Prayer Cross

In many Catholic communities, and in Malsbenden until 1968, upon the death of a neighbour seven unmarried girls would pray the Seven „Fussfälle“ (genufl ections).

In Malsbenden stood seven crosses – six of which still remain today – before which the young women made a genufl ection – the „Fussfall“ – said an „Our Father“, and a „Hail Mary“, and then, continuing with prayers, made their way to the next cross.

The Seven „Fussfälle“ is the oldest form of the Stations of the Cross. The number seven is a reminder of the seven times Christ fell on the road to Golgotha.
