Poensgen’s Villa

Poensgen’s Villa, the house once considered the most beautiful in the town, was built in 1925 in the „mountain baroque“ style, clad with decorative slate work.

The building demonstrates still the grandeur of the vanished coal and steel industry of the Schleiden valley. Many members of the Poensgen family played key roles in these impressive businesses, not only in Schleiden, but already by the 19th century in the Ruhr industrial area. One of them is still remembered in „Poensgen Park“ in Düsseldorf.

The iron industry had shaped business life in the Schleiden area for hundreds of years and helped the iron masters and the company owners to considerable prosperity and influence. After comprehensive renovation Poensgen’s Villa is now living and business accommodation.
